A Phone Call: Perspective In Five Minutes
I just got off the phone with a coaching client. We were scheduled for a VIP
one-hour session, but it turned out to be a five minute pivot point. (So now I have extra time to write this blog post!)
Here’s how it went:
Me: How are you?
Client: Meh.
Me: (Laughing) Really? What does that sound like in English words?
Client: (Gives litany of all the “s*it going wrong” in his business. His words, not mine). I just keep thinking that I’m stuck and don’t see a way out of this rut.
Me: Hm. What’s the thought again?
Client: The thought is: I’m stuck.
Me: And who’s thinking it?
Client: Huh? (Impatient) Me, my clients, my wife.
Me: Oh cut the crap. Your wife isn’t running the business the way you are. She doesn’t see what you see, so she doesn’t think what you think. And your clients don’t see your thoughts. They see your actions and your results. So again, who’s thinking this?
Client: Uh, me.
Me: Can you think another thought?
Client: (Sighing at the set up) Yes, I can think another thought.
Me: You sure?
Client: Yep. Like you’ve said before, I can think “If a problem exists, there’s also an answer that exists somewhere.”
Me: Ok, and if you were the #1 top person in your field that everyone looks up to and wants to emulate or take out of the competition, what action plan would you have to get out of this so-called rut?
Silence. Followed by furious scribbling sounds.
Client: I’m going to write this out and call you back in 2 hours to discuss the action plan, ok?
Me: Great – I’m going to have lunch. Talk to you in 2 hours.

Which leads me to you and this blog post: Who’s greater, the thought or the thinker having the thought?
Bottom line, folks : Who do YOU say that you are and where are you looking for your evidence?
Think about that. I’m off to lunch. (When I get back, I want to see your answer in the comment box below.)
